Can I use any set-top box with a local cable service?

In most cases no, there are some “universal” cable boxes/DVRs you can get (like TiVo for example), but these will lack many of the features that your cable company may have and have a different interface, they also require a CableCard or “M-Card” from your cable company to be installed for them to work, and must support Tru2Way

Some of the cable boxes/DVRs that cable companies offer are “universal” boxes with preinstalled CableCards, though the firmware or middleware is heavily modified for their in-house interface

When it comes to paid television services, you are usually better off using the boxes offered by the television service in question, they are usually specifically set up to play nice with other hardware they offer for a more seamless experience

Hi, you can but there are lots of other pretty handy devices. I recommend you connect this android set top box MAG424Aw3 https://www.infomir.eu/eng/products/android-stb/mag424Aw3/. It's a small set-top box with great features. With such a set-top box, you will be able to watch different TV channels and videos online at a convenient time for you in high quality. Hope it can help
